Earn Up to 0.4 CEUs at ASPE’s 2026 Virtual Learning Day

On March 18, ASPE is offering four opportunities to earn CEUs during the new 2026 Virtual Learning Day. Starting at 10:00 a.m. CDT, the event features four webinars that will explore designing with valves, instantaneous water heaters, booster systems, and hot water recirculation. Each webinar offers 0.1 CEU, giving you the chance to earn up to 0.4 CEUs in less than one business day. You can pick the topics of your choice or sign up for the entire bundle to capitalize on this exciting new education offering from ASPE.

Virtual Learning Day Webinars

Design with Valves: Commercial Valves 201

10:00 a.m. CDT | Aaron Kilburg, NIBCO

This session is designed for professionals who specify, install, and maintain valve assemblies in demanding commercial applications. It will explore the engineering principles behind reliable valve performance, focusing on the critical interplay between construction, material science, and installation practices. Participants will gain actionable knowledge to enhance system longevity and optimize performance in real-world conditions. At the end you will be able to:

  • Evaluate and specify valve types and materials based on commercial service conditions
  • Identify and mitigate common installation errors that lead to valve failure
  • Apply a structured methodology to diagnose and troubleshoot valve performance issues in the field
  • Make informed decisions that improve system reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness

Instantaneous Water Heaters

12:00 p.m. CDT | Aaron Siegel, Stiebel Eltron

This discussion will cover the impact of water conservation, plumbing codes, and regulations related to applications and sizing tankless electric water heaters. By attending you will be able to:

  • Understand the evolution and rationale behind current water conservation codes
  • Master the relationship between fixture flow rates and water heating requirements
  • Apply NAECA efficiency standards to equipment selection
  • Understand requirements for delivered hot water for handwashing and safety equipment
  • Optimize sizing methodologies for both tank and tankless systems

Designing Booster Systems – ASPE Method

2:00 p.m. CDT | Ed Ross, Wilo

This presentation will offer the key highlights of Plumbing Engineering Design Handbook, Volume 2, Chapter 5 parameters for proper sizing and design. It will cover:

  • Effects and costs of oversizing
  • ASHRAE 90.1 application to booster sizing
  • 70% Redundancy Method of pump sizing
  • 80/20 Rule of design and operation
  • Proper fixture counts
  • Proper sizing for the building based on the height and physics
  • Proper use of hydrotanks and PRVs

Domestic Water – Hot Water Recirculation

4:00 p.m. CDT | Hanse Cromer, Steffen-Shultz

This session will explore hot water recirculation, specifically code requirements, how to determine flow, friction loss, pipe size, pump sizing, controls, and how variable-speed pumps can apply, as follows:

  • Code requirements: IPC 2021 amendments and additions to 607.2
  • Design considerations: Pipe routing, balancing, and velocity
  • Steps to designing Recirculation: How to determine flow rate, line size, and friction head losses
  • Recirculating pump and control options: Types of available pumps, material of construction requirements, control options and requirements per code

The webinars are available for purchase individually or as a bundle. Each webinar is $30 for members and $75 for nonmembers. The bundle is $99 for ASPE members and $200 for nonmembers. You can learn more and sign up on ASPE Education.
