ASPE Seeks Volunteers to Help Revise Siphonic Roof Drainage Standard

ASPE Working Group 45 was recently approved to revise ASPE/ANSI 45-2018: Siphonic Roof Drainage, and we seek industry experts—plumbing engineers and designers, manufacturers, inspectors, and installers—to participate in the process. Interested professionals can apply at aspe.org.

Last revised in 2018, ASPE 45 is the only design standard that establishes the minimum performance specifications for siphonic roof drainage systems to help manufacturers, engineers, and inspectors properly design and test engineered siphonic roof drainage systems. This system design standard applies to engineered siphonic roof drainage systems intended to prime and operate full bore through proper pipe dimensioning and the use of siphonic roof drains. This standard does not apply to conventional roof drains covered under ANSI/ASTM A112.6.4: Roof Drains, atmospheric roof drainage systems, or sanitary drainage systems. It establishes minimum performance specifications for systems, provides guidelines for inspection and testing, and describes the basis for the design of siphonic roof drain systems.

ASPE is an American Nationals Standards Institute (ANSI)-approved standards development organization, and this standard will be developed according to ASPE’s accredited Procedures for Design Standard Development for approval as an American National Standard (ANS). Working Group members will participate via web meeting or conference call. Membership in ASPE is not required to participate.

Anyone interested in applying for Working Group 45 can do so here. The deadline to apply is August 10, 2023.
