USGBC to Sunset 2018 LEED Recertification Guidance for LEED Buildings

The LEED v4.1 Operations and Maintenance (O+M) guide from February 2023 is now the primary resource for details on recertification and initial LEED O+M certification.

The updated guide phases out the limited reporting pathway found in the recertification guidance for LEED buildings. This pathway allowed LEED v4.1 O+M recertification projects unable to report performance data across all five categories to receive a LEED v4 O+M certification by submitting 12 months of data in (at least) the energy and water categories and earning a minimum of 40 points.

Projects interested in pursuing the limited reporting pathway for LEED recertification must submit the project for review by December 15, 2023.

To get started, access the LEED project in Arc and follow the prompts to register for recertification. Please note that you must have 12 months of performance data when you submit for review.

LEED Recertification Options

1. Recertify using the LEED v4 O+M rating system in LEED Online. This is applicable to projects previously certified at least once under LEED O+M. Projects seeking this recertification option must register in LEED Online. View details.

2. Recertify by submitting data for all five performance prerequisites to achieve LEED v4.1 O+M. This is available to all projects that have previously achieved LEED certification under LEED for Building Design and Construction (BD+C), Interior Design and Construction (ID+C), or O+M and have been operating for at least one year. Projects must submit data across all five performance prerequisites and achieve a minimum of 40 points. Refer to the “How Recertification Works” section of the LEED v4.1 O+M guide for details.
