Test Your Well Water Act Is Introduced

The Test Your Well Water Act would create an online tool on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s website for Americans with a private well to find resources to test their drinking water and understand what those results mean. Nearly 43 million Americans get their drinking water from private wells or sources that are not regulated by both the federal and state government. This tool would promote transparency and modernize access to EPA resources to help people ensure their drinking water is safe to drink.

The legislation was introduced on July 20 by Rep. Mike Gallagher (WI-08), Rep. Dan Kildee (MI-05), Rep. Antonio Delgado (NY-19), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), and Rep. Ron Kind (WI-03). It  is endorsed by nine organizations focused on providing safe drinking water: A.O. Smith, Environmental Working Group, Michigan Groundwater Association, National Environmental Health Association, National Groundwater Association, NSF International, Rural Community Assistance Partnership, the Water Quality Association, and the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.
