Rheem Is Recognized as an Eco-Leader for the Sixth Consecutive Year

Rheem®, a leading global manufacturer of water heating and HVAC products, was named an Eco-Leader for the sixth year in a row by the editorial team at Green Builder magazine, a leading media company focused on green building and sustainable development.

“We are proud to celebrate yet another honor for our sustainability leadership. Receiving this award six years in a row affirms that Rheem’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and global decarbonization is for the long-term,” said Rheem President and CEO Chris Peel. “The mission begins with us, but we are amplifying our impact in our communities, with our customers, tradespeople, government partners, and end users. Together, our passion for a healthy planet will build a better world for future generations.”

This year’s award criteria focused on responsible leadership, with companies selected for achievements in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance. Rheem exceeded criteria on every front through its commitment to key initiatives, such as:

  • Environmental Stewardship: Avoiding 23.56+ million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions to date through the sale of higher-efficiency Rheem products—a climate impact equal to taking more than five million cars off the road for a year. Rheem was also the first in the U.S. to introduce 120-volt plug-in heat pump water heaters that make switching from gas to heat pump technology easier than ever. Additionally, Rheem is making progress toward its goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 50 percent and achieve Zero Waste to Landfill, including diverting over 40,000 metric tons of waste in 2022.
  • Social Responsibility: Advancing the adoption of sustainable heating, cooling, and water heating products by empowering and training partners in the trade. Rheem has built a pipeline of skilled labor and trained more than 350,000 global plumbers, contractors, and key influencers on sustainable products or sustainable installation and recycling best practices.
  • Corporate Governance: Driving change in the industry to make a lasting impact on the environment.  Rheem prioritizes sustainability in government affairs and partners with legislators and advocates around the world to promote sustainable, equitable policy.
