Learn Key Firestopping Considerations for Combustible Thermoplastic Piping Systems at Our Next Webinar

On October 12, 2023, Steven Dolejsi, P.Eng, and Keith Sanford, PE, CDT, CCPR, will present ASPE’s next one-hour webinar, “Firestopping Basics for Combustible Pipes,” at 1 p.m. CDT. This webinar will explain key firestopping considerations for combustible thermoplastic piping systems, covering the common materials found in the industry as well as the different outside diameters, wall thicknesses, burning properties, vented vs. closed piping systems, and codes and standards that affect the type of firestopping needed to ensure that necessary fire ratings are met and building occupants are kept safe.

Upon successful completion of the webinar you will be able to:

  • Understand the different thermoplastic materials, sizes, thicknesses, and burning characteristics and how they will affect the type of firestop needed
  • Understand key code requirements for MEP penetrations
  • Understand how plastic pipe penetrations are fire tested and rated and the latest solutions for firestopping these conditions

This webinar offers 0.1 CEU and registration is open at ASPE Education.

This webinar is free for ASPE members due to the generous sponsorship of IPEX. Not an ASPE member? Join ASPE today to attend this webinar for free and enjoy all of our other member benefits.

About the Speakers

Steven is a Professional Engineer with a degree in mechanical engineering from Ryerson University in Toronto and has more than 17 years of experience in thermoplastic piping systems used in commercial, mechanical, and industrial applications. Steven devotes much of his time to educating key industry stakeholders on thermoplastics used for piping systems, advancing codes and standards for thermoplastics, participating in industry associations, and analyzing field issues and failures to better understand real-world issues and how to address them.

Keith Sanford, PE, CDT, CCPR, is a Senior Field Engineer with Specified Technologies Inc. (STI) who works primarily with design professionals to make the specification of firestopping easier and code-compliant and reduce clients’ liability through education and consulting. Keith is a Professional Engineer who believes in the importance of firestopping, a belief that solidified after a personal experience during the legal aftermath of a major fire. For more than 30 years, he has worked for two of the largest firestop manufacturers in the world, both domestically and abroad, in positions including sales, field engineer, technical service manager, product manager, global marketing manager, and director of business development. These roles took him throughout the U.S. and Canada, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, India, and the Pacific Rim. Keith holds a degree in civil engineering from Valparaiso University and an MBA from the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University.
