Jacobs Ranked No.1 on ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms List for Fifth Consecutive Year

Jacobs Ranked No.1 on ENR’s Top 500 Design FirmsEngineering News-Record has ranked Jacobs No. 1 in its list of Top 500 Design Firms. Widely considered the industry benchmark, the annual list ranks both publicly and privately held U.S. companies, based on revenue for design-specific services performed in the previous year. Jacobs has held a top five position in the Top 500 list since ENR’s rankings began in 2003, and they are proud to retain the top spot for a fifth consecutive year.

“For the past six years Jacobs has been on a transformation journey to become a company like no other,” said Jacobs Chair & CEO Steve Demetriou. “Our culture, with an emphasis on inclusion, is the cornerstone of our success and has proven to be a competitive advantage that enables us to be agile, innovative, collaborative, and transparent—today and into the future.”

This year  ENR’s lead article featured one of Jacobs’ electric vehicle projects and comments from one of their leaders in relation to their new Divergent Solutions Business.

First Inductive Charging Project on a U.S. Public Road, Michigan Department of Transportation

Jacobs is part of a consortium selected by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to develop and implement an inductive vehicle charging pilot—the first of its kind in the United States. The project team will be led by Electreon, a leading provider of wireless charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs). NextEnergy, a Detroit-based clean energy accelerator, will head up stakeholder and partner engagement. The pilot will also be supported by partners like Ford Motor Company and DTE Energy—a Detroit-based diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services—among others. As engineering partner, Jacobs is providing project management and design services to successfully deliver this pilot project through to operations in 2023.

Divergent Solutions Business

As part of their bold strategy, Jacobs has created a new Divergent Solutions business that’s focused on developing and delivering innovative, next-generation cloud, cyber, data, and digital technologies across the whole of Jacobs. Their new data solutions accelerator will integrate cloud, cyber, and data-management technologies for clients across all of their design markets.

“This move recognizes the significant progress we’ve made,” said Jacobs Executive Vice President and President of Critical Mission Solutions Steve Arnette. “More than that, it acknowledges the importance of embracing disruption and innovation to drive solutions horizontally across the company and create value for our clients.”

Among the rankings outside of the Top 500, Jacobs is ranked among the top 3 in many, with several rankings improving from last year.

  • #1: Hazardous Waste, Sewer and Waste, Telecommunications, Manufacturing
  • Top 3: Transportation, General Building, Industrial Process/ Petroleum, Water
