Get to Know Cameron Bretsen

In this edition of Get to Know, we are pleased to introduce Cameron Bretsen, an Affiliate member of ASPE’s Omaha Chapter.

ASPE: What book do you recommend everyone should read? Why?
Cameron: If I can recommend two: Everybody Always by Bob Goff and Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell. I have listened to the audiobook version of both books this year. Everybody Always encouraged me to approach others with love. Talking to Strangers taught me about how to interact with people who are different from me. Both books have been transformational during a divisive and confusing time.

ASPE: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be? Why?
Cameron: I would love to visit Norway. My dad’s parents were both born in Norway. It would be neat to follow my ancestry and maybe even run into a distant relative. In addition to being a fun word to say, I think the fjords would be cool to check out.

ASPE: What is your favorite animal? Why?
Cameron: I love watching the gorillas at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. It is so fun to see them interact with the kids who are standing up against the glass amazed. I feel so spoiled to live in a city with such a great zoo.

ASPE: What are your hobbies outside of work?
Cameron: I love being sporty. Volleyball, golf, basketball, and ping pong are some of my favorite sports to play. We have a ping pong table at the office where you will frequently find me playing at during lunch.

ASPE: What is one interesting ability you have or an interesting fact about yourself?
Cameron: I have deejayed two weddings. The couple for the second wedding saw me do it the first time and asked me to do theirs as well, so I must not have done too bad of a job. I do not plan on making it a full-time gig anytime soon though.

ASPE: What is your proudest accomplishment?
Cameron: Last year during a golf outing I got my first hole in one. We could see the ball the whole way until it disappeared into the cup. There was definitely some luck involved, but it was cool to see all that practice pay off.

ASPE: What did you want to be when you were a child?
Cameron: When I was a child, I wanted to be an astronaut. I devoured books about space and rockets. I still find outer space to be fascinating. I love looking up at the stars on a clear night and thinking about the incredible vastness of the universe.

ASPE: What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?
Cameron: I love watching college basketball. Some of my favorite memories are at Allen Fieldhouse while I was in school at the University of Kansas. Storming Massachusetts Street downtown after we made it to the Final Four in 2018 is one of my favorite college memories.
