Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating Celebrates Its 90th Anniversary in 2023

CIPH 90th AnniversaryAccording to a letter from Ralph Suppa, President of the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH):

“2023 marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of CIPH on February 8, 1933 in Montreal, and we are eager and ready to serve you and the industry on key initiatives to inform you and connect you with other relevant stakeholders to achieve member success through education, advocacy, and the sharing of best practices.

“In the 1930s, our founding members recognized the need to appeal to the Government of Canada as a strong unified voice on behalf of our industry to encourage renovation and housing starts. As individual companies they had little power, but together as one strong unified voice they believed they would be heard. The drive for change through powerful alignment that was established decades ago is exactly what we continue to pursue today as an association.

“The key strategic pillars of focus for the board on your behalf are : 1. Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; 2. Bringing safe, cleaning drinking to indigenous communities; 3. Branding; 4. Education; 5. Ensuring the relevancy of tradeshows; and 6. Continuity planning as we transition to a new CEO.

“One of CIPH’s key focus areas along with MCA Canada is meet the federal governments Emissions Reduction Plan and commitment to their Net Zero-Emissions Building Strategy. As an industry we want to see market transformation that leads to a sustainable, low carbon economy. We believe that to make transformation possible, government and industry need to work together.

“We have taken proactive steps to ensure that the plumbing and heating sector is well-represented in federal policymaking. Through our partnership with MCA Canada we have engaged elected officials and senior civil servants to put the voices of our members front and center in discussions about the path to net-zero in construction.

“We have stood up for our members to talk about business conditions including supply chain challenges, labor concerns, and procurement challenges. One of our top priorities is making sure that new developments across the country are well aligned between each jurisdiction. We have made it clear federally that disjointed approaches lead to less efficient operations for businesses and higher costs for consumers and governments.

“On January 24th we are holding a virtual roundtable discussion needed to achieve net zero in Canada’s construction sector that will include mechanical industry representatives, aligned stakeholder organizations, and key federal departments such as NRCan, NRC, and ESDC. The goal is to continue to build on a white paper we had previously submitted to the government with further recommendations.

“As a team we are at your service and we value our members, committees, councils, allied associations, and the nine regions across Canada. Our combined input will continue to focus and drive the implementation of the Board’s strategy locally and nationally. Thank you!”
