The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the world’s leading professional society for fire protection and fire safety engineering, has named Bob Libby, PE, FSFPE, its 2024 President, and Amanda Kimball, PE, FSFPE, its President-Elect.
Bob Libby, PE, FSFPE, is Senior Vice President and Principal of Fire Protection Engineering at Coffman Engineers, where he serves on the firm’s Board of Directors and has extensive experience in the specification, bid, award, installation, management, testing, and acceptance of fire protection systems in commercial buildings. He holds a degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland and has recently served on the university’s Board of Visitors for the engineering department. He has been an SFPE member for more than 40 years, has served on the SFPE Board of Directors since 2018, and has been active in the SFPE Houston Chapter and SFPE Chesapeake Chapter, including service as a Past President of the SFPE Chesapeake Chapter. Libby is currently serving as Program Committee Chair for the SFPE Annual Conference & Expo scheduled for October 2024 in Louisville.
Amanda Kimball, PE, FSFPE, was elected President-Elect. Kimball is the Executive Director of the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Protection Research Foundation, where she leads strategy and performance of research programs that address fire detection and signaling, building and life safety, hazardous materials, electrical safety, fire suppression, warehouse storage, firefighter health and safety, wildfire, emerging technologies, and more. She has been an SFPE member for 20 years, has served on the SFPE Board of Directors since 2017, and is a past leader of the SFPE New England Chapter. She holds degrees in Civil Engineering and Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Shamim Rashid-Sumar, PE, FSFPE, has been elected as Secretary-Treasurer. John Denhardt, PE, ET, FSFPE, CWBSP, and Albert Simeoni, PhD, PMSFPE, have been re-elected to another term on the SFPE Board of Directors. Jeffrey Tubbs, PE, FSFPE, has been elected to join the SFPE Board of Directors. Each will begin their term on January 1, 2024.
“As SFPE continues to reach more and more engineers across the globe, our membership has elected some of the industry’s brightest leaders to build off our strong programs and best position the Society for continued growth and impact,” stated Chris Jelenewicz, PE, FSFPE, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Society of Fire Protection Engineers. “SFPE’s 2024 elected leaders have the depth, experience, and dedication needed to advance the Society’s strategic objectives toward innovation, sustainability, and competency for the profession of fire protection and fire safety engineering.”
Christopher Butts, PE, AET, SET, CFPS, ARM, PMSFPE; John Frank, PE, FSFPE; Jimmy Jönsson, PE, FSFPE; Chris Jelenewicz, PE, FSFPE; Shaun Kelly, PEng, CEng, MIEI, PMSFPE; Fang Li, PE, FSFPE; Elizabeth Pennacchio, PE, PMSFPE; and Michael Wojcik, PE, PMSFPE, continue their service on the Society’s Board of Directors. SFPE will be soliciting nominations for the 2024 leadership roles in the coming months.
