ASPE Member Is Named PHCPPros’ 2023 Plumbing Engineer of the Year

We are pleased to announce that New York City Chapter President Robb Risani, PE, CPD, LEED AP, ASSE 6060, was named the 2023 Plumbing Engineer of the Year by PHCPPros. Robb was recently promoted to Associate Principal at Arup in New York City and serves as the firm’s East Plumbing Discipline Lead.

According to the feature article in Plumbing Engineer magazine, Robb credits his experience working for a plumber throughout seven years of college as essential in helping him toward his current profession. He originally pursued an engineering degree to expedite becoming a licensed plumber but transitioned to plumbing engineering when he learned of an open position at Arup, where he has been for 16 years.

Leadership and mentorship were key aspects of this year’s Plumbing Engineer of the Year recognition. Robb is part of the hiring team at Arup, and as the discipline leader, he finds time to be a mentor and be available to other engineers to provide guidance and possible solutions to questions. He also assisted in the establishment of a scholarship for engineering students at the City College of New York, where he is an alumnus.

In addition to his leadership positions in ASPE’s New York City Chapter, Robb also serves on the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Metro Plumbing Code Committee and the 2023 NYC Plumbing Code Committee, and he is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

“I am honored and privileged to receive this recognition,” Robb said to PHCPPros. “I would never have dreamt that my career would have taken this path. It shows that hard work pays off. I encourage others to see that there are many routes to get here, and it can be an obtainable goal for everyone.”
