Reserve your hotel room now!
ASPE has obtained special discounted room rates for 2018 Convention & Expo attendees at the Hilton Atlanta and Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center, but the room blocks are limited. Once the rooms sell out, you will not be able to obtain a room at ASPE's special rate, so be sure to reserve your room early. You must reserve your room through our website at expo.aspe.org to access the discounted rate.

Just announced: system fluids webinar is being held May 23
"System Fluids — Looking At Loops" will explain why evaluating the water chemistry at each jobsite is so important. Various system fluid characteristics will be reviewed to show the risk to heating system equipment when they are out of balance, and recommendations for best practices to ensure optimal water quality will be discussed. 2018 GPD workshop is being held September 27–28
The Green Plumbing Design workshop is offered by ASPE and IAPMO to help those interested in sustainable design to learn new skills and better consult their clients. If you are a CPD or PE, you have the option of taking the exam at the end of the workshop to potentially earn the GPD designation. The 2018 GPD workshop is being held prior to the ASPE Convention & Expo in Atlanta, and you will receive 25% off the workshop fee if you also register for the full Convention. ASPE Board of Directors applications are due by the end of the month
ASPE members in good standing are encouraged to apply for one of the 12 elected positions on the 2018–2020 ASPE Board of Directors by May 31. The application package and a guide to the nominating process can be found at aspe.org/MembersOnly.

Women of ASPE scholarship deadline is May 31
WOA is offering a scholarship to help a deserving member attend the 2018 ASPE Convention & Expo, which will cover the registration fee, special events, roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, airport transportation, and meals, as well as a one-year membership renewal. To be eligible, an applicant must be an ASPE member in good standing and part of WOA. The guidelines and application can be found here.

Plumbing Engineer seeks heating system experts
For its annual Heating Season Preview, ASPE's official publication, Plumbing Engineer, is looking for heating system engineers to contribute their knowledge. Earn CEUs and learn new skills at ASPE workshops this June
ASPE's Basic Plumbing Design Workshop will be held June 14–15 at our headquarters in Rosemont, Illinois near Chicago's O'Hare Airport, and our popular, hands-on Revit MEP workshop will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 29. A special deal for nonmembers combining the workshop fee with a one-year ASPE membership is available for both workshops.

 

Space is limited for the Central Florida Chapter's water design strategies workshop

Local Chapters mourn the loss of members
ASPE Life Member Harold Yackey, PE, passed away on February 16. He joined ASPE in 1972 and was a member of the Northern California Chapter. 
Longtime Central Ohio Chapter member Gerrit Van Straten, PE, passed away on April 24. He served as the Central Ohio Chapter President and as President of the ASPE Research Foundation. Atlanta Chapter member Nick Mosley passed away on April 26. He served as Chapter Vice President, Legislative for one term and as Chapter Vice President, Technical for three terms. Our condolences go to all of their families and friends.

Final 2017 Community Plumbing Challenge report is available
Last year's event brought together a team of tradespeople from around the world to deliver life-changing water and sanitation systems to the residents of Cicau Village in Cikarang, Bekasi (West Java), Indonesia. We once again thank ASPE members Nicholas Hipp, CPD, and Vincent "Vinny" Falkowski, PE, PMP, CCM, for participating in the 2017 CPC. ASHRAE seeks input on revisions to residential energy-efficiency standard
The revisions to ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.2-2007R: Energy-Efficient Design of Low-Rise Residential Buildings seek to deliver energy performance that is at least 50 percent more efficient than that defined by the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. Comments will be accepted until June 18. More>>

WQA issues call for papers for its 2019 convention
The 2019 Water Quality Association Convention & Exposition will be held April 23–26 in Las Vegas, and presentation proposals on treatment innovations or water-related legislative issues will be accepted until June 29. More>>
