The Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) has announced that the association’s President, Ralph Suppa, will be retiring later this year, starting a leadership transition process over the next eight months. Ralph’s decision to retire will bring to a close a remarkable career that includes 35 years at CIPH, the last two decades of which have been as President.

“Our association has benefitted immensely from Ralph’s expertise and member-centred approach. The CIPH staff, Board, members, and our many partners feel privileged to have worked with Ralph and are enormously grateful to him for his many contributions,” says Matt Robinson, CIPH Board Chair.

During his tenure at CIPH, many in the industry have experienced firsthand Ralph’s ability to build personable relationships with CIPH members, government partners, regulatory authorities, as well as allied associations in both Canada and the U.S. He leaves the organization in solid financial standing along with systems the Board and staff can utilize as CIPH continues to evolve and grow in service of the membership.

Endings require new beginnings, and CIPH’s Board of Directors has established a Search Committee to oversee the process to choose Ralph’s successor. An executive search firm has been engaged to assist with the recruitment of CIPH’s next President. Consultations will begin this winter, followed by a public job posting and recruitment and selection process in the spring/summer of 2023.

“We are confident that we will find an experienced and visionary leader to sustain and grow the exceptional work done under Ralph’s leadership so that CIPH can continue to make a positive impact in our sector, for our members,” said Robinson. “We look forward to Ralph’s continued strong and active leadership through the recruitment and the transition to his successor, and as he prepares for a well-deserved retirement.”
