November 2025 From the President’s Pen: Conduit of Success—Being Ready for Opportunity

Over the past several months we have talked about gratitude, community, and how we move forward together as one Society. In this column, I want to focus on something equally vital: being ready when opportunity arrives.

ASPE creates opportunities every day—opportunities to grow professionally, to expand your network, to gain leadership experience, and to contribute to the advancement of our industry—but too often opportunities pass us by, not because they weren’t there, but because we weren’t ready to take advantage of them.

Preparation is the bridge between where you are and where you want to be. Whether it’s earning a certification, attending a Tech Symposium, volunteering for a Chapter role, or simply saying “yes” when asked to contribute, readiness is the key that turns opportunity into achievement.

I have witnessed countless examples of ASPE members who prepared, stayed open to learning, and were ready to act when opportunity knocked. Those members are now leading projects, Chapters, and even Society initiatives. Their success is proof that readiness is not about waiting—it’s about building capacity every day.

Our Society exists to help you be ready:

Opportunities rarely announce themselves in advance. They come suddenly—in the form of a project lead, leadership nomination, or chance to share your expertise. If you’re ready, they can change your trajectory. If not, they may pass you by.

So, I encourage each of you to stay curious, stay prepared, and keep investing in yourself. ASPE provides the conduit, but it’s your readiness that completes the circuit of success.

Thank you for being part of our community and for choosing to grow with us.

I am enclosing Volume 7 of the ASPE education crossword puzzle. Luther Thevenin, CPD, is one of our many talented contributors to the ASPE Education Committee, and he has put together some great puzzles for our ASPE community, so take some time and complete the crossword puzzle. The answers will be posted in my next column.

Until next time.
