ASPE signs MOU with NSF International

On Tuesday, ASPE Executive Director/CEO Jim Kendzel, MPH, CAE, and NSF International Vice President Pierre Sbabo signed a memorandum of understanding to advance and promote public health and sustainability initiatives within the plumbing industry. The MOU impacts the design, specification, installation, inspection, and regulation of plumbing systems. Three engineering students receive ASPE Steele Scholarships

This year, ASPE awarded Alfred Steele Scholarships to three deserving students pursuing degrees in engineering: Elizabeth and Veronica Mende and Jingyu Lee. Twins Elizabeth and Veronica both graduate this month from Will Carleton Academy in Hillsdale, Michigan with 4.0 GPAs, and each received $1,000 toward their first year at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, where Elizabeth is majoring in mechanical engineering and Veronica is majoring in biomechanical engineering. Jingyu Lee, a student member of ASPE, attends Illinois Institute of Technology with a triple major in architectural engineering, civil engineering, and architecture. He has a 3.89 GPA and has been on the Dean’s List for seven consecutive semesters. Congratulations Elizabeth, Veronica, and Jingyu!

At its annual meeting, the ASPE Research Foundation held formal elections for the 2012–2013 fiscal year. The following individuals were elected to serve on the board: President Julius A. Ballanco, PE, CPD, FASPE; Vice Presidents David H. Anelli, William N. Erickson, William F. Hughes Jr., CPD, LEED AP, FASPE, Curtis A. Ray Jr., CPD, Max Weiss, and Stanley Wolfson; Treasurer Carol L. Johnson, CPD, LEED AP; and Secretary Jim Kendzel, MPH, CAE.

Region presidents meetings being held June 1–2

New NFPA program designed to help code enforcers join technical committees

The NFPA’s Enforcer Funding Program aims to increase the number of code enforcers participating on NFPA’s technical committees to maintain balance and broad participation in their standards development process.

Proposed revisions to energy standard for existing buildings is open for public comment

ASHRAE and the Illuminating Engineering Society are accepting comments on revisions to ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 100: Energy Conservation in Existing Buildings until June 18. Information and the draft can be found here.
