ARCSA invites ASPE members to its 2018 Annual Conference activities
The American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA) is co-locating its 2018 Conference with the ASPE Convention & Expo in Atlanta and will be offering their two-day rainwater harvesting workshop, which satisfies the prerequisite for the ASSE Series 21120 Rainwater Catchment Systems Designer Certification exam, as well as expert presentations on innovative water management topics. Congratulations ASPE award winners!
The Special Award of Achievement is bestowed on those individuals who have demonstrated a prominent commitment to the Society or to the plumbing engineering profession and have, in some unique way, helped advance the profession. This year, the Society chose three recipients for this award:

  • Jose Francisco DeHoyas, CPD, Central Texas Chapter, for his long-term dedication and commitment to enhance and grow the Society's educational programs
  • Michael L. Panco, Philadelphia Chapter, for his commitment and service and demonstrating a level of excellence in promoting the Philadelphia Chapter, the Society's mission, and the plumbing design industry
  • David M. Bailey, CPD, GPD, FASPE, Washington, D.C. Chapter, in recognition of his long-term leadership and guidance as Chair of the Bylaws Committee

The Special Award of Appreciation is given for commitment to the Society and advancing the profession. This year, the Society is honoring two members:

  • Nicole Marie Parker, CPD, Connecticut Chapter, for her dedication and perseverance to the preservation and prosperity of the Connecticut Chapter and her commitment to ASPE
  • Brianne Nicole Hall, PE, CPD, LEED AP BD+C, GGP, Eastern Michigan Chapter, for her commitment, dedication, and outstanding Chapter contributions, which benefit the Society and the advancement of the plumbing profession

The 2018 version of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 188: Legionellosis: Risk Management for Building Water Systems clarifies compliance requirements and updates enforceable, code-intended language to facilitate adoption of the standard for code and regulatory purposes. More>>

The World Plumbing Council's scholarships are available to individuals actively involved in their local plumbing industry, particularly in education and training, and are intended to provide the opportunity for an educational exchange between plumbing industry participants from different countries. New water detoxification method may help promote wastewater reuse
The method developed by Purdue University researchers uses chlorine and UV to degrade amines, organic compounds derived from ammonia that are common in water supplies. It also may find applications for swimming pool water treatment. More>>

Increased water use in fracking leads to concerns about its long-term sustainability
The amount of water used per well for hydraulic fracturing increased by up to 770 percent between 2011 and 2016 in all major U.S. shale gas and oil production regions, according to a Duke University study. More>>

Legislation to increase technical education funding is signed
On July 31, President Trump signed H.R. 2353: Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which reauthorizes and gradually increases funding for the improvement of secondary and postsecondary career and technical education (CTE) programs. More>>
