Congratulations Alfred Steele Scholarship recipients!
ASPE is pleased to announce that the following students received Alfred Steele Scholarships this year to help them continue their pursuit of a career in engineering:

  • Rachel Gendich, who attends Lawrence Technological University, is studying Architectural Engineering, and has a 3.0 GPA, received $3,000.
  • Samantha Falkowski, who attends the University of Rhode Island, is studying Industrial and Systems Engineering, and has a 3.2 GPA, received $1,500.
  • Cyrus Blackmore, who attends Purdue University, is currently undeclared, and has a 4.0 GPA, received $500.

CPDT exam registration opens next Monday
The Certified Plumbing Design Technician (CPDT) designation recognizes plumbing system designers who have achieved a high level of professional competence in the practice of plumbing design at the technician level. The program is considered a precursor to the Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) certification. All Associate and Full ASPE members are eligible to sit for the exam, which this year is being held on October 5 and 6. Visit aspe.org/CPDTExam for details.

Deadline to apply for the WOA 2017 Technical Symposium scholarship is June 30
WOA (The Women of ASPE) has created a scholarship to help a deserving member attend ASPE's 2017 Technical Symposium in Montreal on October 19-22. To be eligible, an applicant must be a female ASPE member either enrolled in an engineering program at a college/university or employed in the engineering field with less than five years of work experience, as well as have a valid passport. WOA announces SWE annual conference winners
WOA (The Women of ASPE) will be representing ASPE at the Society of Women Engineers WE17 conference being held in Austin, Texas on October 26-28 and recently held a raffle to give away two free registrations. The winning recipients are Renae Torborg, PE, of the Minnesota Chapter, and Ashley Hayes Turlington, CPDT, of the Dallas/Ft. Cross-border water pipeline moves forward

Commercial contractors have high expectations for this year
96 percent of contractors surveyed expect revenues to grow or remain stable this year compared to 2016, and two-thirds will employ more workers in the next six months, although they report difficultly finding skilled workers, especially in the plumbing and electrical trades, according to the new USG + U.S. Chamber of Commerce Commercial Construction Index.
