ASPE Executive Director to participate in World Plumbing Day event in London
Billy Smith, FASPE, ASPE’s new Executive Director/CEO, has been invited to be a speaker at next week’s World Plumbing Day Conference in London, organized by the Royal Society for Public Health and the Worshipful Company of Plumbers. The topic of his presentation will be “Hot or Cold: Finding the Balance Between the Control of Legionnaires’ Disease and the Prevention of Scalding.”

ASPE Greater Toronto Area Chapter approved for charter
The ASPE Board of Directors has approved a petition for charter to establish the Society’s 61st North American Chapter in Toronto, Ontario. Due to the fold of the Ottawa Chapter, members in the area wanted to provide a new means for networking and professional development for local industry professionals, so they have been working with the ASPE staff to establish a new chapter in the area. The official charter ceremony will be held in May in Toronto, and details will be made available when they are finalized.

New sustainable management standard published
ASPE is pleased to announce that WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-801 (2015): Sustainable Management has been approved as an American National Standard and is available for download at aspe.org. S-801 can be used to evaluate a company’s sustainability-related governance and management practices at the corporate and production facility levels. It is a prerequisite for certification to WQA’s two sustainability-related product standards. More>>

Just announced: solar thermal water heating webinar being held March 18
This webinar at 2 p.m. EDT will teach participants about the different solar panels and designs available for solar thermal water heating systems, as well as how to maximize specifications and size systems. Nonmembers can attend this webinar for free by joining ASPE. Learn how here.

ASPE seeks volunteers to serve on Membership Committee
ASPE’s Membership Committee is looking for volunteers to help develop new ideas and fresh initiatives to improve membership growth and retention. The effort requires between one and three hours per month to kick around ideas and develop proposals via conference call. Individual work assignments will be at each member’s pace. Candidates should have some experience at the Chapter level with membership. Two members from each region will be selected, and at-large members are also welcome to apply. CPD exam registration closes March 12
The CPD exam is being held at testing sites across the country on April 9 and 10, and this year candidates can bring up to six reference materials into the testing center. ASPE’s regional workshop tour heads to Milwaukee next week
On World Plumbing Day (March 11), ASPE will host a full-day workshop, Plumbing Engineering for Engineers, which is designed to help plumbing industry professionals learn more about fluid dynamic principles and how they relate to modern plumbing systems. Registration includes lunch and 7.5 hours of continuing education credit.

The full-day, hands-on Revit MEP 2015 workshop on March 12 includes a computer rental, lunch, and 7.5 PDHs. Space is limited, so register soon!

Celebrate World Plumbing Day next Wednesday
World Plumbing Day, held annually on March 11, was initiated by the World Plumbing Council to highlight the essential role plumbing plays in protecting the health and safety of modern society. Organizations around the world will be holding events to emphasize the importance of the work the plumbing industry contributes every day to alleviate water concerns.

Sustainable building guidelines to be aligned
ICC, ASHRAE, and the USGBC have announced a new initiative to consolidate the International Green Construction Code and Standard 189.1 into one regulatory tool and coordinate the requirements with the LEED green building system to simplify the sustainable construction industry. More>>

As part of this initiative, a call for members has been announced for the SSPC 189.1 Project Committee. Persons interested in serving on this ASHRAE committee can obtain the necessary forms and information here. The deadline for applications is March 27.

Updated pressurized flushing device standard is now available
ASSE, ASME, and CSA Group have harmonized performance standards for U.S. and Canadian manufacturers of these devices as well as testing and certification requirements for third-party agencies in the newest version of ASSE 1037/ASME A112.1037/CSA B125.37. More>>
