This one-hour webinar provides a discussion of the changes which are expected to appear in the 2018 Edition of the NFPA 99 “Health Care Facilities Code”, Chapter 5, relevant to medical gas and vacuum systems.
- Major Changes and what they mean
- Some background on why that change has been made
- How the change may impact the present or future design of medical gas and vacuum systems
- Notes on implementing the change.
Upon successful completion of the course learners will be able to:
- Consider the 2018 standard in any medical gas work they undertake
- Determine when the 2018 changes standard practice and implement those changes
- Determine when the new provisions of the 2018 will offer their client new options.
The Presenter: Mark Allen
Mr. Allen has been involved in medical gas industry since 1978. He started out of university working in the verification of medical gas systems. After seven years as a verifier, he transitioned to Ohmeda in 1985 and has performed various technical and marketing roles through Ohmeda’s transitions to Medaes, and now BeaconMedaes. He is now V.P. of Medical Marketing for Atlas Copco Medical Gas Solutions Division.
He has been involved in virtually all aspects of medical gas work, including regulatory, testing and verification, product development, marketing, and education and is a 6050 Instructor.
He is an active member of the National Fire Protection Association Technical Committee on Medical Gas and Vacuum Systems and has been involved with that Committee since the 1987 edition. He is also an active member of the Canadian Standards Association Technical Committee on Medical Gas and Vacuum Systems and has served on the ISO/TC121/SC-6 working on the ISO 7396-1 among others.
He has acted as chairman and general secretary of various regulatory committees and is the author of numerous journal articles, design guides and other technical aids for the engineering of medical gases.
