Failure Probability?
Does anyone have any references to books, articles or the like that discusses the probability of failure of building piping systems? I am writing a risk assessment for a client who likes to see numbers, statistics and such. I have a handle on what I need to write, where the potential hazards are and such, but I need some statistical data to give it the ooomph it needs.
Factory Mutual, among other entities, has to write some big checks to cover losses and they have a pretty good engineering department. You might check with them.
There is very little published data on the subject. Try ASHRAE, they have some life expectancy info in their books.
Be careful & use it as a general guideline. I have run into several buildings that have had galvanized pipe that failed in less than 20 years. Rumor has it that during the 70's, loads of offshore pipe came in that were improperly plated.
Hope this helps
